Democratic Party Announces Kamala Harris and Tim Walz Officially Certified as Democratic Nominees for President and Vice President

Today, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison and DNCC Chair Minyon Moore announced that Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz have officially been certified as the Democratic Party’s nominees for President and Vice President.

Vice President Harris and Governor Tim Walz officially accepted the nominations today, following the close of delegate voting on Monday, August 5th and the official certification of the roll call by Convention Secretary Jason Rae. Convention Chair Minyon Moore then certified Governor Walz as her running mate. The announcement follows a transparent and democratic nominating process, during which delegates to the convention took seriously their responsibilities to cast their votes for our party’s nominee – with 99% of participating delegates supporting Kamala Harris in the virtual roll call. The virtual roll call ensured that the Harris-Walz ticket has met all ballot access deadlines and every American will have the opportunity to vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the general election.

“It is my great honor and privilege to congratulate the Democratic Party’s official nominees for President and Vice President, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz,” said DNC Chair Jaime Harrison. “A Harris-Walz ticket represents the future of the Democratic Party and our country. Their vision to lower costs for working families, ensure reproductive freedom for every American, and stand up for our democracy will guide us as a Party as we mobilize supporters to get out the vote this November. The momentum and unity of our party is unprecedented, with 99% of all delegates in our roll call casting their vote to turn Vice President Harris into President Harris this November.”

“Today our Party has officially certified Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz as our nominees for President and Vice President of the United States,” said Convention Chair Minyon Moore. “Throughout this process, thousands of delegates made their voices and the voices of their communities heard, and their diligence and dedication has ensured that every voter has the opportunity to vote for our Democratic nominees this November. Now the eyes of the world turn to Chicago, where our delegates will celebrate this historic ticket with a ceremonial roll call and tell the story of Vice President Harris, Governor Walz, and the Democratic Party as we prepare to defeat Donald Trump once again.”

DNCC Rules Committee Passes Permanent Rules for 2024 Presidential Nomination

The Convention Rules Committee, in partnership with the DNC and DNCC, voted to adopt the Permanent Rules of the 2024 Democratic National Convention by a vote of 157-3. The Convention Rules Committee is co-chaired by Governor Tim Walz and Bishop Leah Daughtry.

“As a Party, it’s our obligation to design and implement a fair nomination process for delegates to formally express their preferences through a vote to select an official presidential nominee of the Democratic Party who will go on to top the ballot in November,” said DNC Chair Jaime Harrison. “As extreme Republicans try to chip away at the faith in our institutions, the work of our Rules Committee and the responsibility of our delegates to cast their votes in the days to come proves that our democracy is strong. The work ahead may be unprecedented, but we are prepared to undertake a transparent, swift, and orderly process to move forward as a united Democratic Party with a nominee who represents our values and will lead us to victory in November.”

“We have taken an important step today to put our Democratic ticket on every general election ballot nationwide and on a path to winning in November,” said DNCC Chair Minyon Moore. “We are confident that the process we’ve laid out is secure, democratic, and critical to our defense against bad-faith litigation coming from Republicans and dark money groups as they once again put partisan games above the will of American voters. Today we stood up clearly to say: we will not let you. The Convention in Chicago will be a critical moment for our party — not only to rally around our nominees and showcase their bold platform for the next four years — but to bring delegates to the table to vote on our Party’s platform and conduct a ceremonial state-by-state roll call that has long been a beloved tradition of our Party.”
