Nida Fazli, was a prominent Indian Hindi and Urdu poet, lyricist and dialogue writer. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2013 by the government of India for his contribution to literature.

He was honored with the National Harmony Award for writing on communal harmony. He wrote 24 books in Urdu, Hindi and Gujarati. Some of his works are also present in National Council of Educational Research and Training Hindi textbooks which millions of students study. Manoj Kumar Sahib, may your soul rest in peace. Today, Indian Cinema has lost a great legend. The void will be there but you will live on, through your work, your wonderful films, for years and years to come.

Harikishan Giri Goswami, better known by his stage name Manoj Kumar, is an Indian actor, filmmaker, screenwriter, lyricist, and editor who has made significant contributions to Hindi cinema. He is celebrated for his performances and films that focus on patriotic themes, earning him the nickname “Bharat Kumar.” Throughout his career, he has received numerous accolades, including a National Film Award and seven Filmfare Awards in various categories.

In this conversation, Manoj Kumar reflects on his childhood and the profound impact of his birthplace. He shares memories of living in a refugee camp during the tumultuous period of India’s partition—experiences that have greatly influenced many of his patriotic films. Manoj Kumar narrates these memories with such vivid detail that listeners can easily visualize each moment of history.

From our Archives – In conversation with one of India’s finest Ghazal Singers, Penaz Masani

Penaz Masani is an Indian ghazal singer who started singing in 1981 and has made over 20 albums. She was honoured with the Padma Shree award on 26 January 2009.

Penaz has won a number of awards, including the title of ‘Shehzadi Tarunnam’, by the state government of Uttar Pradesh 1996 and the 11th ‘Kalakar Award’ for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Music’, in 2002. She has worked as a playback singer for Bollywood, in more than 50 Hindi movies and sung in over ten languages. Under the aegis of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, she has performed in countries as far reaching as Germany, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal and Vietnam. Mahima Chaudhry is a Indian actress and model who worked in Hindi films. During the 1990s, Chaudhry did a few modelling assignments and appeared in several television commercials before venturing into films.

Mahim made her acting debut in the 1997 film Pardes, for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She established a career with several roles in films including Daag (1999), Dhadkan (2000), Kurukshetra (2000), Dil Hai Tumhaara (2002), and received critical recognition for her performances in Dil Kya Kare (1999) and Lajja (2001).
